Transfer Nursing Students

Each year, hundreds of students transfer to UMass Boston to pursue a degree in nursing or to advance their nursing careers with a bachelor’s degree. There are multiple pathways toward a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at UMass Boston. To help you understand which program might be the best fit for you, we welcome you to attend an online Nursing Information Session.

Traditional Nursing Program
  • No prior degree required
  • Students with prior bachelor’s welcome to apply
  • Minimum time to completion is 5 semesters (2 1/2 years)
  • On Campus
Accelerated Nursing Program*
  • Bachelor's degree in non-nursing field
  • 12 months
  • Online asynchronous instruction
  • In-person Boston-area clinicals
RN-BS Program*
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) or Hospital School Diploma
  • RN License
  • Typically takes between 3-5 semesters to complete (select classes may be offered in the summer semester)
  • Online

*Students on an F-1 Visa are not eligible to apply for the Accelerated Nursing and RN-BS programs.
