Welcome to UHS General Medicine, UMass Boston's comprehensive on-campus health center. Our team of board-certified healthcare providers is here to support your health and well-being throughout your academic journey.
For effective communication, we offer Language Line translation services in over 240 languages during appointments.
General Medicine Care
Our team addresses a wide range of health concerns, from common illnesses to chronic conditions:
- Infections, such as sore throats, colds, flu, urinary tract infections
- Injuries, such as sprains, wounds, concussions, lacerations
- Symptoms, such as abdominal pain, fatigue, cough, dizziness
- Chronic conditions, such as asthma, migraines, ADHD
- Skin issues, such as acne, rashes, bites
- Musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, joint pain
- Procedures, such as ear irrigations, dressing changes, wart treatment

Primary Care Services
Comprehensive care for your everyday health needs, from minor illnesses to chronic condition management. UHS will support you with the following:

Diagnosis & Treatment: Illnesses, injuries, and common health concerns.

Annual Physicals / Wellness Visits: Routine check-ups for students with BCBS insurance.

Medication Management: Prescriptions, refills, and guidance on proper use.

Sexual & Reproductive Health: Preventive care, screenings, and counseling.

Sports Physicals: Available for UMB athletes.

Health Screenings: Routine assessments to monitor overall health.

Sexual & Reproductive Health Services
Confidential and compassionate care tailored to your sexual and reproductive health needs. UHS will help you with the following:

Birth Control: Education, counseling, and access to oral contraceptives, rings (NuvaRing), shots (Depo-Provera), and referrals for implants (Nexplanon), IUDs, and diaphragms.

Emergency Contraception: Free counseling and prescriptions for the morning-after pill.

HPV Vaccinations: Protect against five types of cancer.

Menstrual-Related Concerns: Support for period irregularities, pain, and other menstrual issues.

Pain Evaluations: Assessment and support for pelvic pain and painful sex symptoms.

PrEP & PEP: HIV prevention medications and counseling.

Vaginal Exams: Pap tests and follow-up care.

STI Testing & Treatment: Confidential testing and treatment for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, HIV, HPV, Syphilis, and more.

Pregnancy Services: Testing and options counseling.

Medication Abortion: Safe, effective, at-home option for pregnancies up to 11 weeks using mifepristone and misoprostol.

Surgical Abortion: Referrals for preferred surgical abortions or pregnancies over 11 weeks.

Travelwell Services
Get prepared for international travel with tailored vaccine recommendations and counseling. Please book your appointment about 3 months before your trip. UHS will help you prepare for international travel with the following:
- Counseling and Education: Information and educational materials concerning health risks in destination countries.
- Travel Vaccines: Tailored recommendations and vaccinations based on destination and health history to prevent illness.
- Medication Evaluation: Depending on the destination, medications may be recommended to prevent relevant illnesses or symptoms while traveling.

Wellness Visits - New & Free!
Take charge of your health with free, non-clinical Wellness Visits, open to all students. These visits focus on healthy habits, goal-setting, and education — no labs, medications, or procedures required.
Offered through the Beacon Wellness Initiative in collaboration with University Health Services.
Lifestyle Medicine Visits
Focus on everyday choices that impact your long-term health. These visits help you set goals, build healthy habits, and get personalized guidance. UHS Nurse Practitioners will support you with the following:
- 1-on-1 Coaching: Topics include sleep, stress management, physical activity, social connections, substance use, and plant-based nutrition.
- Goal Setting: Identify achievable steps to prevent, manage, or even reverse chronic conditions.
- Education & Support: Learn how lifestyle choices affect long-term well-being and receive guidance for meaningful, lasting change.
Nutrition Counseling
Work with a Registered Dietitian to create a nutrition plan tailored to your lifestyle. These sessions help you set realistic goals and learn practical strategies. UHS will support you with the following:
- Personalized Meal Planning: Guidance on grocery shopping, meal prep, and balanced nutrition.
- Energy & Focus: Support strategies to boost overall well-being and daily performance.
- Sustainable Habits: Learn practical tips to make healthy eating a consistent part of your life.

Nicotine Support Visits
Get guidance on quitting tobacco or vaping, reducing use, or learning healthier alternatives. These visits provide education, strategies, and ongoing support. UHS will help you with the following:
- Individualized Strategies: Support for quitting or reducing nicotine use, tailored to your needs.
- Craving & Trigger Management: Tools to handle challenges and stay on track.
- Education & Accountability: Learn about the health effects of nicotine and set achievable goals for lasting change.
Immunizations & Lab Services / Tuberculosis Testing
Stay protected and keep your health screenings up to date with UHS. We provide comprehensive vaccination and lab services to help you stay healthy on campus. UHS will support you with the following:
- Required Immunizations: All vaccines required by the university, including Hepatitis B, MMR, MCV4, Tdap, Tetanus-Diphtheria, and Varicella.
- Routine & Preventative Vaccine: Recommended vaccines such as HPV, seasonal influenza, Meningococcal B, and others to support long-term health.
- Tuberculosis Testing: On-campus TB testing to meet university and health requirements.
- Laboratory Services: In-house testing for common illnesses like strep and flu, plus access to specialized external labs through Quest Diagnostics for more advanced testing.

We partner with mobile providers to bring essential services right to you on campus.

Mobile dental care brought right to campus to make oral health easy and convenient. Services include:

Mammograms (3D Breast Cancer Screenings)
In partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Mammography Van provides on-campus digital 3D breast cancer screenings. Quick and convenient appointments take about 20 minutes. Services include:

Annual mammograms (recommended for anyone age 40+)

Support for campus-wide Breast Cancer Awareness efforts

Skin Cancer Screenings (Dana-Farber Blum Van)
Free on-campus skin cancer screenings to help detect potential issues early. UHS encourages all students, staff, and faculty to take advantage of this preventative care. Services include:

UHS Freebies
University Health Services offers a variety of free resources to help students, staff, and faculty stay healthy and prepared. UHS will support you with the following:
Emergency Contraception
Safe and effective birth control available up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse.
Ways to Access:
- Free sExpress Program (click here to place your order)
- Free Plan B Dispenser (Located in the East Residence Hall, next to the Printing Station)
- By appointment at UHS (students only)

Flu Kits
Stay prepared during flu season with essentials provided by UHS. Kits include thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer, soup, and more.

Free pads and tampons are available for all students in the UHS Lobby and patient bathrooms
Narcan Kits
Free overdose prevention kits, including Narcan, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, CPR face shield, and educational materials.

Safer Sex Supplies
Condoms and other safer sex supplies are available for free to all students.
