Health Insurance | Bursar's Office
University Health Services General Medicine accepts and can bill a variety of commercial health insurance plans. Please note the following:
- Bring Your Insurance Card: Always bring your insurance card when you come to UHS.
- Understand Your Coverage: The amount you pay for services depends on the deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments associated with your health insurance plan. It is important to understand your coverage.
- Billing Address: Bills from UHS are mailed to the address on file.
- For questions regarding billing or waiving insurance, please contact the Bursar's Office.
Protecting Access to Confidential Health Information (PATCH) Act
If you are accessing care for any "sensitive services" and have a Massachusetts-based health insurance plan, you may request that the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement be sent directly to you. Click here to learn more about the PATCH Act.
Referrals
Patients insured by a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Point-of-Service Plan (POP) require a referral from their primary care provider (PCP) to receive care at UHS General Medicine. Please contact your PCP to obtain this referral before visiting UHS. Referrals can be faxed or mailed to UHS:

Uploading Insurance on My Health Beacon Portal
Before your appointment with General Medicine, upload your insurance information:
- Log In: Log into your My Health Beacon Portal.
- Update Insurance: On your home page, click on the "Insurance Card" tab in the left-hand column and follow the prompts to add your insurance information. You'll be asked to upload a photo of your card.
Paying a General Medicine Bill
- Bills are mailed to the address on file.
- Removing Holds: If you have a "UHS" hold that you need to clear by making a payment, call General Medicine at 617-287-5660 to have the hold removed - this is not automatic.
Payment Methods
- In Person: UHS accepts cash, checks, or cards. Visit the General Medicine Clinic (Quinn Administration Building, 2nd Floor) and ask the front desk to pay your bill.
- By Mail: Mail a check payable to: University Health Services, 100 Morrissey Blvd., Boston, MA 02125
- By Phone: Call 617-287-5660 to provide billing information.
