Student Health Plan (SHP)
2023-2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield Student Health Plan Policy
In accordance with the State of Massachusetts “Student Health Program - SHP” (previously called QSHIP), students enrolled in 75% of the full-time curriculum in any Massachusetts institution of higher education are required to participate in a school-sponsored qualifying SHP or an alternate health plan with comparable coverage. Students who are at least 75% of the full-time curriculum are automatically billed for the SHP.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Insurance Plan
UMass Boston has teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) for the 2023-2024 Academic Year to provide health insurance coverage for our students.

Eligibility
Students who are at least 75% of the full-time curriculum (9+ credits for undergraduate students or 7+ credits for graduate students) are automatically billed for the SHIP. All other students should inquire as to their eligibility to purchase the insurance by contacting the Bursar's Office.
International Students: All matriculating international students enrolled in 1+ credit hours are automatically enrolled in the SHIP. Please note that International Students are not allowed to waive the SHIP unless covered by an embassy-sponsored plan, acceptable US-based insurance through a spouse or employer, or covered under a Massachusetts Connector Plan with coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation. If you are covered by an embassy-sponsored health insurance plan and provide the Bursar's Office with your financial guarantee prior to the waiver deadline, you will not be enrolled in SHIP.

Students can access the waiver online through the WISER.
